Under the break, I'll talk about my opinions of this trailer, and my hopes for this movie!
The trailer for this movie, which for simplicity, I'm going to use the US title, Peanuts, is very simple, and doesn't really show much of the movie itself, if this scene is even part of the movie. It's quite easy to notice that this is going to be a CG movie, however I don't particularly see it as what I call a 'typical' CG movie. I love the style of this, and it does look very similar to the comic strip and the cartoon. Yes, a 2D, hand-drawn movie for Peanuts would be nice, as then it would be able to look prety much exactly the same. However, fans should consider it nicer than the idea of a live action movie with real children playing the roles of Charlie Brown and co., with Snoopy being added in with CG. This is clearly much better than that, and I, for one, am definately supportive of this style. You can also see that it isn't overly 3D-looking, yet not 2D... 2.5D??? (I am definately not the first to suggest that...) Also, when Snoopy spins all around Charlie Brown, you can see that they have animated it like the old cartoon... I think they could be trying out a style that's CG, but still looks like it could have almost been handrawn, especially Snoopy.
Obviously, there very little information out about this movie. However, it is apparently confirmed that in order to do the voices of Snoopy and Woodstock, they are going to use technology to make samples of their voices and then use them in the movie -- instead of casting someone new. I know it isn't much, but from this trailer, Charlie Brown sounds pretty close in my opinion. They have said that they will be keeping to the source material, and have specified that Snoopy will not be rapping and there won't be any twerking. It has also been said that the locations, characters, etc, in the movie will remain the same in the movie as in the series.
One point that I have seen a lot of discussion about in regards to this movie is how in the world did they manage to get the rights to make this. This is as result of according to what I have read, Charles M. Schulz never passed on the rights to the series, not even to a family member. I'm not entirely sure how true that is, but I have also read that in his will, he requested that nobody was to tamper with his creation. Like I already said, I do not know how accurate these statements that I've seen are, but they do make me a little suspicious, wondering if they even have any rights to this...
I do have a few ideas of how this movie will pan out. The first is the one that I, along with probably a lot of other Peanuts fans, hope is the path that the movie takes. This path is the one where the movie doesn't seem like a reboot, or just like nostalgia-in-your-face thing, but rather a geniune movie that fits right into the Peanuts world, with the characters' personalities remaining the same, and very close voices. The second path that Peanuts may possibly take is just a movie made for nostalgia, where its not 'new' or anything, still pretty close, but not overly exciting. And the third possible pathway for Peanuts is just a typical reboot movie, where its just overall bad and a bit of a disappointment. This always irritates the fans, but the trailer looks very promising, so hopefully the movie will not go in this direction.
It also occurred to me that this will probably be a movie that they will really promote, and I get the feeling that this is going to spawn a lot of merchandise, particularly toys. I believe that we might even get some proper collectibles as well, all in scale and stuff like that... for a small fortune...
I guess this is something that I will definately attempt to keep up with...
